  • 2. Do I need the special printer toner to print paychecks?
  • No, special printer toner is not required, but it can be beneficial. With Halfpricesoft's online payroll solution, you have flexibility in how you print paychecks:

Pre-Printed Checks: If you choose pre-printed checks, you can use any standard printer, including laser printers, inkjet printers, or others.

Blank Stock with Virtual Printer: When printing paychecks on blank stock using the virtual printer, a laser printer (or a MICR printer) is recommended for the best results. Many of our clients find office or home laser printers suitable. However, for the highest quality, MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) printers are ideal. It's worth noting that inkjet printers are not recommended for blank stock check printing, as some scanners used by ATMs and grocery stores may not scan them properly.
